SIMON WELLS' Biography on Amazon
ITUNES LINK (RELEASED 29TH OCT 2012)
Ashley is boring. He is really boring. If you ever met him, you'd do much to avoid him. The perennial office creepy guy, he performs his task with a contemptuous attention to detail, yet remains the butt of his colleagues' ribald humour. His boss despises him. And home is no better, with his mother obviously favouring his mercurial brother David. Yet underneath the bland exterior, the computer games and obsessions with Newsnight and orderliness, Ashley is a seething hotbed of rage, barely contained. This can be traced to an incident described in excruciatingly masterful detail right at the start. Brother David is a much more palatable figure, who wonders off to a rock festival, leaving his brother to deal with the repercussions. These repercussions involve a journey outside of every comfort zone he's ever had.
Encounters of the Close Kind with a mysterious girl traveler, a laughing, Baron Samedi drug dealer and a mind-gaming anti-authoritarian authority figure and finally, the tripping horse itself, open Ashley's eyes to life beyond the confines of his obsessions and his office/home.
Beautifully written with style and humour, Wells has updated the road novel to include the dull and the ignorant, for they too have a story of redemption to tell ... And Simon Wells tells this redemptive tale with the practiced ease of the seasoned teller of extraordinary stories. An excellent book that should be read, enjoyed and thought about
